MATCH FUNDING DRIVE: Plant Futures with the SLBI
LIVE: Monday 10th March until Tuesday 1st April
For every £1 donated, our champion will match it for up to £5,000! With your help, in 3 weeks, we could raise £10,000 for Plant Futures!
About
We are faced with an unprecedented environmental crisis that threatens our health and the health of our planet. At the same time communities in urban centres are increasingly disconnected from the natural world. Community based engagement with the natural world is essential in addressing these challenges.
The SLBI promotes the importance of plants in sustaining ourselves, our communities and the planet. From hands-on workshops for schoolchildren, educational walks in local parks and courses for plant researchers, our work supports people to meaningfully participate in a future for all living things. Your funding will support us to continue delivering our core educational program and be open more often as we enter the second year of our two-year reopening process.
Thanks to a generous match funding opportunity, every £1 you donate will be doubled, making your gift go twice as far and supporting us to make a more sustained impact. Our funding champion will match every donation made between 10th March and Tuesday 1st April up to £5,000. For example, if you donate £5 during this period, we will get £10! Over a three-week period, we could raise up to £10,000 with your help!
Your money will:
Enhance Educational Programs - Expanding our workshops, courses, and offsite initiatives to engage even more people in the wonders of the botanical world.
Increase Access to Resources - Investing in our garden, herbarium and library to ensure more people can learn from them.
Build Capacity – Strengthening the capacity of our organisation by investing in the staff, tools, and materials needed to ensure our sustainability.
After almost 4 years of closure, the South London Botanical Institute reopened in June 2024. Since that time, we have hosted plant-based learning events for over 1440 people of all ages and experience. We are now embarking on a funding drive to nurture and expand the SLBI’s work in emboldening people to connect with plants.
About the SLBI
The South London Botanical Institute is a vital community learning space focused on plants, people and civic participation. Sited in a Victorian house in the inner-city area of Tulse Hill we are a community education hub for people of all ages & backgrounds. It is home to an extensive botanical library, a herbarium, rich botanical garden, welcoming learning spaces and community kitchen.
We run plant-related talks, urban botany and nature walks, workshops, school visits & open garden days for individuals, families & community groups. We are dedicated to creating learning and research opportunities that welcome curiosity and engagement with some of the most pressing environmental, cultural and social issues of our time. We make a difference by providing a much-valued space, resources, and low-cost activities & opportunities to connect through peer-to-peer learning and imagination practices that value the non-human as much as the human.
The SLBI has been at the forefront of interesting people in south London and beyond in plants, fungi and other organisms classified as plants at the time of its foundation in 1910.
